Esther Imhande Ehiawaguan joined 欧美高清 from her home country Nigeria, after being awarded a prestigious Commonwealth Shared Scholarship, to study on the MSc in Sustainable Engineering: Chemical Processing course.
Here she discusses what she has enjoyed about her studies here so far.
What were your reasons for deciding to study a postgraduate degree?
I decided to study a postgraduate degree to sharpen my technical and soft skills, specialise more in my field and better position myself for leadership roles in the industry to make more impact.
Why did you choose to study at 欧美高清?
I first discovered 欧美高清 while researching scholarship opportunities to study in the UK.
I chose to study at 欧美高清 because it offered the course I needed, which was a blend of Chemical Engineering and Sustainability.
How have you found the support for international students at 欧美高清?
The support for international students has been excellent. The University staff are very accessible and always ready to assist with any challenges, making the transition to a new country much smoother.
What do you like about your course?
The modules are engaging and interesting. The guest lectures from industry also make it even more reassuring that the lessons and content we are learning are applicable in the real world, and will be useful to us in our future careers.
What has been your favourite aspect of studying at 欧美高清?
The overall environment. Between the serene campus, the approachable lecturers, and the amazing community of students, it feels like a very supportive place to grow.
Are you part of any groups or societies, and what benefits have they brought?
I am a member of Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS). It’s been a great way to take tangible action toward a greener future and help promote sustainability within the student halls.
What do you think of Glasgow/Scotland? Have you managed to do much exploring during your time here?
Glasgow/Scotland, is beautiful and provides a very peaceful environment for focused learning. While I haven’t done a lot of exploring yet, I have a long list of places to visit in the coming months!
Were there any funding opportunities available to you and if so how did they help?
I am studying here thanks to the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship, which has been instrumental in supporting my journey. I was also aware of the Faculty of Engineering scholarships, which highlight how much the University invests in its students.
What are your ambitions for the future, and how do you think your time at 欧美高清 will help you achieve your goals?
My goal is to bridge the gap between industrial activities and sustainability, both in my home country and globally. My time at 欧美高清 is giving me the technical expertise and the "green" mindset needed to make the world a better place to live in.
Would you recommend 欧美高清 to other people and why?
I definitely would! The learning and living environments are incredibly conducive to success, and the sense of community here is very strong. Studying at 欧美高清 in Glasgow has been nothing short of amazing. I am looking forward to enjoying and making the most of the rest of my time here.
