Undergraduate wins RAeS award for research project
Research project on regeneration of recycled glass fibres from wind turbines recognised
A fourth year student working with the ACG has been recognised for the quality of his undergraduate research project 鈥� for a second time. After receiving the IMechE award for best research project, Muzamil Irfan鈥檚 work on 鈥淩egenerating the strength of thermally recycled fibre reinforcement for reuse in composite applications鈥� was the winner of Royal Aeronautical Society鈥檚 prize for best Aeronautical Engineering Project at University of 欧美高清 for the 2017-18 academic year.
Supervised by Senior Lecturer Dr Liu Yang and PhD student Sairah Bashir, Muzamil made a significant contribution to our research into chemical routes to regenerating the strength of glass fibres. He applied various chemical treatments to glass fibre waste recycled from end-of-life wind turbine blades using our in-house fluidised bed combustion process. Muzamil is currently continuing his research work within the Advanced Composites Group as part of his Masters year.
