The Scottish Net Zero Roadmap (SNZR) project has won a 拢1.23 million share of the UK Government's 拢8m fund to support the decarbonisation of six major industrial areas.
The SNZR project is led by the industrial carbon capture and storage alliance and will analyse Scottish industrial emissions and investigate routes to decarbonising large sections of Scotland鈥檚 industry.
The UK Government fund is part of a drive to create the world鈥檚 first net-zero emissions industrial zone by 2040 and is the latest phase of its 拢170m .
The Centre for Energy Policy will be joining 9 industrial partners and the University of Edinburgh in the project. The Centre鈥檚 involvement will focus on understanding the public policy challenges of decarbonising industry.
Professor Karen Turner, Director of the Centre for Energy Policy at the University of 欧美高清, said:
This important project paves the way for addressing the crucial technological, economic and policy challenges of reducing emissions from Scotland鈥檚 industrial sites.
Scotland鈥檚 industries and the supply chains they sustain, provide a key contribution to both the Scottish and wider UK economies and are central to the social fabric of Scotland.
By developing a robust and feasible strategy to support industry to meet Net Zero targets in Scotland, we can show real leadership and reduce the climate impact associated with industrial products and services.
This is crucial for the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of these industries with the aim of ensuring they continue to contribute to a prosperous and sustainable economy and society. At CEP, our aim is to bring crucial public policy understanding and insight to the development of Scotland鈥檚 Net Zero Roadmap
