Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)Financial assurance check for your CAS & Student visa

If you are applying for a UK Student visa, you must show that you have enough money to pay for:

  • your tuition fees, and
  • your living costs (maintenance)

This is a requirement set by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

Before you receive your CAS (Pre-CAS financial assurance check)

Before we issue your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), you will be asked to provide financial documents.

This happens after you have:

  • accepted your unconditional offer
  • passed your Pre-CAS readiness check (if applicable)
  • paid your tuition fee deposit.

We will review your documents to check that they meet UKVI/other regulatory requirements before issuing your CAS.

Tuition Fees

You must show any remaining unpaid tuition fees for your first year (the balance due after payment of deposit).

Living Costs (Maintenance)

You must show:

  • £1,334 per month for up to 9 months
  • maximum total: £12,006

If your course is longer than 12 months, you only need to show living costs for the first year.

Dependants (if applicable)

If you are a Postgraduate Research student bringing dependants:

  • £680 per dependant per month (up to 9 months)

Key Financial Requirements

You must meet all of the following:

  • funds must be held for at least 28 consecutive days
  • the balance must not fall below the required amount during this period
  • your bank statement must be recent – the final date on it should be no more than 31 days before you submit your visa application, so UKVI can be sure the funds are still available.
  • funds must be held in cash form (e.g. savings/current account)
  • funds must be held with a regulated financial institution

Not accepted: 

  • Shares, bonds, cryptocurrency, or property and any other forms of evidence deemed unacceptable in accordance with UKVI policy.

If your funds are held in a currency other than GBP: 

  • you should check the exchange rate using the
  • you should ensure your balance remains above the required amount in GBP for the full 28-day period

Exchange rates can change daily, so you should allow a buffer to ensure your balance dos not fall below the required amount. As part of the verification process, the Admissions team will .

Your Own Bank Account

Your bank statement must show:

  • your name (or joint account with your name)
  • account number
  • bank name, logo, and address
  • date of statement
  • available balance

It must also show that:

  • funds have been held for at least 28 consecutive days
  • the balance has not dropped below the required amount
  • your bank statement must be recent – the final date on it should be no more than 31 days before you submit your visa application, so UKVI can be sure the funds are still available.

Electronic bank statements are acceptable if they include all of the above information.

Parent(s) or Legal Guardian(s)

You must provide:

  • bank statement (meeting all requirements above)
  • birth or adoption certificate
  • letter of consent confirming the funds can be used for your studies
  • all names must match across documents

Funds held in a joint account can be used, provided your name is listed on the account and you can clearly demonstrate that the money is accessible to you in line with UKVI requirements. Bank statements from other family members or friends are not accepted. If someone else is contributing financially, the funds must be transferred into your account before the 28-day period.

Official Financial Sponsorship

If you are sponsored (e.g. government, company, scholarship), you must provide a letter that confirms:

  • your name
  • sponsor’s name and contact details
  • date of the letter
  • length of sponsorship
  • amount funded (or confirmation of full funding)
  • if fully funded: no additional financial evidence required
  • if partially funded:  you must show additional personal funds

Educational Loans

Loan letters must:

  • be issued within the last 6 months
  • confirm the loan is from an approved government or educational provider
  • confirm there are no conditions of offer (other than a successful visa application)
  • confirm the amount of the loan
  • confirm the loan is in your name

Depending on your answers, you will be asked to upload relevant evidence, such as:

  • bank statements
  • sponsor letters
  • loan letters
  • parent/guardian documents (if applicable)

 

 

Declaration

As part of the Financial Assurance Check, you will be asked to complete a declaration to confirm that the details provided are correct and to help reduce the risk of fraud.

What happens next

Once you upload your documents:

  • we will review your information and evidence
  • we may contact you if we need clarification or additional documents
  • if everything meets requirements, we will proceed with issuing your CAS

  • This is an initial assessment only
  • UKVI will make the final decision as part of your visa application

Any document not in English must be officially translated.
