Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)Pre-CAS readiness check: applicant guidance

As part of our admissions process, the University may ask some applicants to complete a short online Pre-CAS Readiness Check before we can proceed with visa sponsorship and issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).

Where this applies, completion of the Pre-CAS Readiness Check forms a condition of your offer and must be satisfied before a CAS can be issued.

Not all applicants are required to complete this step. If it applies to you, we will contact you with further details.

The Pre-CAS Readiness Check helps us to:

  • confirm that you are a genuine student
  • assess your understanding of your chosen programme
  • understand your reasons for studying in the UK
  • review your plans after completing your studies
  • ensure you are prepared for a potential UKVI credibility interview

This is an opportunity to demonstrate your motivation, preparation, and study intentions.

If this condition is included in your offer, you will receive instructions to complete the check.

Please ensure you:

  • click the link provided
  • complete the online interview in one sitting

The Pre-CAS Readiness Check is completed online (via Qualtrics) and includes a combination of video and written responses.

You will be asked a series of questions about:

  • your chosen programme
  • your reasons for studying in the UK
  • your future plans
  • your preparation for study

The check includes:

  • a mix of fixed and randomly selected questions
  • a unique set of questions tailored to you
  • responses completed in English

Preparation is key. You should be ready to clearly explain:

Your course

  • What you will study
  • Key modules or areas of interest
  • Skills you expect to gain

Your decision-making

  • Why you chose this programme
  • Why you chose this University

Your future plans

  • Your career goals
  • How this course supports those goals

Your answers

  • Use your own words
  • Be honest and specific
  • Avoid memorised or copied responses

Approximately 15 minutes

Please ensure you:

  • have your passport ready
  • have a stable internet connection
  • are in a quiet environment
  • allow enough time to complete the interview

  • Your responses will be reviewed by the academic faculty
  • You may be contacted if further information is required

Possible outcomes

Pass

  • Your application will progress
  • A CAS may be issued once all conditions are met

Borderline

  • You may receive guidance or be asked for further information
  • Your application may still progress if other conditions are satisfied

Unsuccessful

  • You may be given a second opportunity
  • If unsuccessful again, your application will not progress for this intake

Important note

Failure to complete the Pre-CAS Readiness Check, submitting incomplete responses, or providing responses that raise concerns about your study intentions may result in:

  • Your application not progressing to CAS stage
  • The University declining to issue a CAS

Final reminder

This check reflects the type of questions asked in a UKVI credibility interview.

  • Prepare well
  • Be honest
  • Be yourself

If you can clearly explain your choices and plans in your own words, you will give yourself the best possible chance of success.
