- Conducted by Nada Khorchid, Global Practitioner:
This project aims to strengthen executive leadership education by focusing on transformational learning rather than skills transmission alone. It examines how leaders develop personal insight while learning collaboratively to create new understanding - capabilities that are increasingly important in complex organisational contexts (Day, 2000; Boyatzis, 2018).
Although leadership development is well researched, there is limited evidence on how individual learning connects with collective knowledge creation in executive education. Adult learning theory highlights the importance of constructive-developmental growth and transformative learning (Kegan, 1994; Mezirow, 1991), while organisational learning research emphasises the role of shared knowledge creation (Nonaka & Takeuchi, 1995). However, these strands are rarely integrated in executive education research.
Using Appreciative Inquiry with participants from SBS executive programmes, this study will explore peak learning experiences to identify the conditions that support both personal development and meaningful group learning. The project will generate a small set of evidence-based design principles to inform SBS executive programme design, with wider relevance for teaching and learning across the faculty, and will provide a foundation for future research into learning impact. - 02-Jan-2026 - 31-Jan-2026
