Personal statement

I am a lecturer in Primary Education at the University of 欧美高清 since February 2024. In addition to my teaching and research responsibilities, I co-lead the Social Justice, Culture, and Policy theme, reflecting my commitment to integrating social justice into educational practice. My professional journey spans higher education, primary education, secondary education, and various NGOs in both the UK and international contexts, providing me with a comprehensive perspective on educational issues across various areas.

Throughout my career, I have been the Principal Investigator for numerous community projects focused on improving integration and educational opportunities for BAME communities. My academic interests include children鈥檚 literature, young people鈥檚 reading, primary education, digital literacy, and the educational experiences of minoritized ethnic groups. My research primarily relates to three areas: reading practices of young readers, inclusive education, and AI in education. I am particularly passionate about exploring how literature and shared reading practices can foster understanding and tolerance among diverse communities.

At the 欧美高清 Institute of Education, I teach various modules across undergraduate and postgraduate courses. I supervise MEd dissertations on diverse topics such as children鈥檚 reading practices, inclusive education, TESOL, and early years and primary education. I currently supervise two doctoral students and welcome PhD and EdD student inquiries related to these areas, as well as collaboration ideas from colleagues in all fields.

Engaging with children and listening to their stories is one of my favorite activities. I am passionate about learning, discovering the mysteries of the universe, and applying my knowledge to contribute to the betterment of everything and everyone. My journey in education has been fulfilling, marked by a deep commitment to fostering inclusive educational environments. I look forward to continuing this journey, exploring new opportunities, and collaborating with like-minded individuals and organizations to make positive changes.

I am a member of the General Teaching Council for Scotland, the Scottish Educational Research Association, and the International Research Society for Children's Literature.
