Personal statement
I first joined the university in 2015 on a 2-year secondment and have returned permanently in 2020 as a Teaching Fellow in Physical Education. As well as the coordinator for the PGDE Physical Education course, I am also the module leader for Professional Practice and Curriculum & Pedagogy for all Secondary PGDE and Teaching Degrees. My main areas of interest are in applying evidence-based approaches to teaching physical education, specifically models-based practice. Prior to joining the university I was a physical education teacher in Glasgow schools for 15 years. I also held extended principal teacher posts at both curricular and pastoral level. My doctoral studies were completed in 2024. My thesis is entitled: Becoming - activist : the journeys of two teachers in their enactment of an activist approach in girls鈥� physical education. My work is qualitative in nature within the critical transformative paradigm and aims to work with participants to challenge conventional narratives, focusing on gender issues in physical education. I have further interests in teacher professional learning, innovation in curriculum and pedagogy and gender studies. I supervise at undergraduate and Masters' level. Currently, I am co-supervising doctoral studies which are looking at enacting an Activist Approach for girls physical education in both China and Pakistan.

- This six-session, interactive seminar focusses on qualitative data analysis approaches. We take a hands-on approach to developing qualitative data analysis skills for doctoral students. Our seminar is funded by the Scottish Graduate School for Social Sciences and the Scottish Graduate School for the Arts & Humanities
Our learning objectives are:
1. To develop participants鈥� abilities to understand and discuss the goals, strengths and weaknesses of theoretical frameworks and research methods.
2. To increase participant familiarity with a variety of approaches, methods and analysis tools that are referred to as qualitative.
