Personal statement

I have been Reader in Finance at the University of 欧美高清 since 2017, having previously held the positions of Senior Lecturer in Finance at 欧美高清, and Lecturer in Finance at the University of Aberdeen.听 At 欧美高清, I have held extensive management responsibilities including Associate Dean (Postgraduate Research), Departmental Director for Postgraduate Research, Course Director for the Undergraduate Honours Year, Department Ethics Convenor, and Vice Convenor of the University Ethics Committee.

听

I have held the role of Associate Dean (Postgraduate Research) since August 2024 with oversight for PhD, DBA, MPhil and MRes students at 欧美高清 Business School.听

听

Outside of department and university responsibilities, I acted as Chair of the Scottish Area Group of the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) from 2016 to 2019.听 I was Secretary General for the University of 欧美高清鈥檚 team that hosted the 38th European Accounting Association Annual Congress in 2015.听 With Andrew Marshall, I led the University of 欧美高清鈥檚 successful bid to host the Financial Management Association European Conference in 2019.听听

Teaching

I currently deliver the year 2 undergraduate AG215 Business Finance module.

My teaching focus is on Corporate Finance or Financial Management, and have led modules in these subjects to Undergraduate and Masters cohorts.听 I have previously led undergraduate and postgraduate 听modules on Asset Pricing, Case Studies in Finance, Derivatives, Introductory Finance, and Portfolio Theory internationally in Bahrain, Oman, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Tanzania, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as on campus in Glasgow.听

Research Interests

My research and PhD supervision interests cover most areas of corporate finance, and specifically corporate restructuring, employee layoffs, asset divestitures and liquidity in the market for corporate assets.听 I welcome PhD applicants interested to work in these areas.

I have published over 20 research papers in leading international finance journals including Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, European Financial Management, and British Accounting Review.听
