Personal statement

I am an applied microeconomist at the Fraser of Allander Institute in the department of economics. I joined 欧美高清 after completing my PhD in economics at American University in 2022. I am currently engaged in research into the Scottish and UK social security systems, immigration, labour market, and household income and wealth, with a focus on the effects of public policy.

At present, I am particularly interested in the relationship between immigration and the social care sector in the UK. This interest encompasses the effects of immigration policy on the sector, the role of social care work in the labour market trajectories of immigrants, and strategies to recruit and retain immigrants as social care worker. Building on past work at the Fraser, I also have an ongoing interest in the relationship between health inequalities and economic inactivity, methods to track progress towards Scottish statutory targets for child poverty, the design and effectiveness of active labour market policy in Scotland, and the viability of wealth taxes as a means of funding social security reforms in a UK context.
